Throughout my PhD, I have worked with Dr Valli Rajah as a research assistant and collaborator. Together, we started a project working with a dataset composed of speeches, debates, and public interventions delivered during the 2020 online observance of Wrongful Conviction Day. I identified, retrieved, and transcribed the recordings, and then collaborated with Dr Rajah on inductive coding using MaxQDA. We categorised roles, emotional expressions, and narrative frames, analysing the data through the lens of emotional framing in social movements. Our analysis explores how emotions are strategically mobilised in the discursive practices of “day of” advocacy events. A paper based on these findings is currently being prepared for submission to the British Journal of Criminology.
